I made this with my friends Brendan and Caleb a while back. Caleb did the intro/verse piano, and Brendan did the chorus piano. I wrote the chorus beat, as well as wrote/performed the lyrics.

Falling Slowly
I finished recording the new version of Falling Slowly with my friends Brendan and Jesse. I'm really happy with how it turned out. We came up with some real sweet new stuff. That's Brendan singing, though I kept my own ambient vocals in there. He's also playing the piano at the end, while Jesse plays Violin at different parts. After several frustrating instances with Garage Band, I finally got the dumb thing to export correctly for your listening enjoyment. So I hope you like it!

Oh, Hello Again
Been quite a while. How've you been? Cool.
I've been working on learning guitar recently. It's coming along slowly. The first song I've mostly learned is "Falling Slowly" from the movie "Once". Because of this, I've had the song running through my head mostly constantly for the past few weeks. I thus decided to try my hand at a cover. The result is what you hear below. I'm very pleased with it. I started out not really having any idea how to go about it, other than just playing the song with a beat behind it. After messing around with a bunch of stuff, including vocals (!), I finally had something I was happy with. Alas, I'm not of the singing type, so there's minimal vocals, and I don't pretend that the few there are are even close to good. However, I am really happy with how the ambient "Ahhs" turned out during the first bridge, and then later at the end. I was really surprised just how well they actually sounded. I've got a friend who's voice is significantly better than mine, and he's gonna throw down some of his own vocal sounds, which I'll probably add/replace my vocals with. I'm real excited. Let me know what you think (the two of you who might read this)!

Since I'm not very good at coming up with my own original material at this point, and since this song turned out so much better than I thought it would (probably just my own biased opinion), I'm gonna keep going along this route of covers. Hopefully I'll get to the point where I can make my own stuff that sounds decent.

Priorities
So instead of doing homework today, I spent about 6 hours finishing up my new song.
It's changed a lot since I first started it, and you'll have to take my word on that. For some reason any time I export a song, it sounds off time. It'll sound fine before in garage band, but then I'll play it in iTunes, and it sounds weird. Also, I still can't figure out how to make it not super quiet when it gets exported. It's not real bad, but the drums are definitely supposed to be louder. I dunno. Maybe it's just me. Any time I make a song I really like it at first, but then like right after I decide it's finished, it sounds crappier to me. Part of that could be attributed to my inexperience with Garage Band. Something I still need to work on getting better at. Ah well. You'll notice the song isn't up here anymore. That's 'cause it's broken and sounds sucky. But I promise, it sounds good in GB. Gonna work on getting that fixed up.
Also, I've decided my side project pseudonym will hereafter be Smoky Lineman. It's just perfect.

Portrait
I've started a new song today. I arbitrarily titled it "Portrait." Seriously, don't ask me why, I couldn't tell you. It's far different from any of my other stuff. Weird, almost ballad-y stuff, I want to say. Stay tuned.

A New Thing
I finished my first song today. It felt really good to make my own thing by myself. And then I decided it might be fun to change my blog into one where I talk about the songs I work on. So that's what I'm going to do. Here's the first one I finished. I"m really sorry about the volume levels, they were fine in Garage Band, but they somehow got real low when I sent the song to iTunes. If you have suggestions on how to fix it, lemme know.
